Recently, the Pelham Public Library Board made the difficult decision to cut the number of open hours at the two Pelham Library locations. As with all Ontario public libraries, the Pelham Public Library receives the majority of its funding from the local municipal government. With an increase in costs related to inflation and in contracted services, and after making two budget request presentations to Council, Council voted to freeze the library budget at the 2018 level, thereby forcing the Library Board to reduce operating hours.
The following table outlines the updated hours of the library starting on July 2 (read more.)
*Beginning June 20, the Fonthill Branch will close at 5 PM on Thursdays during the Fonthill Bandshell concerts. Regular Thursday evening hours will resume on September 12.
The Library Board will be collecting impact statements on the reduction of hours. They would like to hear the Public’s opinion on how this change in operating hours affects them, and they will be bringing this information with them when they make their presentation to Town Council in the fall. To assist the Library Board in collecting these statements, library staff would like to encourage residents to fill out a short survey to provide feedback on how the change in hours affects them.
